Description

The Senior Litigation Paralegal supports the Liability Litigation Managing Attorney and Liability Litigation Attorney in the litigation of personal injury claims in the State of Florida. The incumbent monitors information requests, including discovery; obtain necessary third party documents, including medical records; and draft and file required pleadings. This position is also responsible for supporting and coordinating with the litigation attorneys on activities related to all phases of litigation, from the date of suit through trial and resolution. The Senior Litigation Paralegal reports to the Liability Litigation Managing Attorney.

• Responsible for requesting, managing, and maintaining all relevant and necessary case documents from both Publix and third parties. These may be records, policies, and other responsive documents (e.g., medical records, lease agreements, indemnity agreements, facilities records, etc.)
• Responsible for drafting documents needed for Publix’s defense of claims, as directed by the Litigation Attorneys
• Responsible for maintaining and organizing case documents

Required Qualifications

• High School diploma or its equivalent
• At least five (5) years’ experience as a paralegal in a law office, general liability claims office, or corporate risk management department
• In-depth knowledge of file management and process documentation
• Knowledge of medical/dental terminology
• Knowledge of legal terminology, processes, and proceedings
• Knowledge of the inner workings of attorney’s offices and various state entities
• Knowledge of the litigation process
• Knowledge of computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Ability to type 40-50 words per minute
• Planning and organizing
• Communication skills including both written and verbal format
• Ability to show discretion and integrity
• Ability to multi-task and effective time management skills
• Interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to be detail oriented
• Ability to maintain the confidential nature of documents received internally or from non-parties

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or above
• Six (6) or more years’ experience as a paralegal in a law practice specializing in tort and personal injury defense; including premises liability, negligent security, subrogation and court procedures, a portion of which should be in south Florida
• Basic Spanish language skills
• Knowledge of case management software
• Paralegal Certification
• Experience handling premises liability cases
• Knowledge of Publix policies and procedures, and understanding of the risk management general liability organizational structure
• Willingness to work a variable work schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays
